Surface Roughness

We have an instrument to measure the profile of a surface finish.

The stylus is driven slowly across the surface being measured, and the sharply-pointed stylus follows the profile of surface irregularities.  The vertical movements of the stylus are transmitted to the meter to obtain the weighted average roughness (RMS) in micrometer or microinches.  A recorder also provides permanent graphs of the roughness profile at a preselected magnification.
